Bias announces Peak Pro 6!
I recently noticed that Bias has upgraded their industry-standard two-track editor, Peak Pro, to version 6! Right now you can pre-order an upgrade for $149 if you have version 5. I checked out the feature list and have selected a few highlights for you below that I see as especially promising:
- Perpetual Loop DSP: ensures perfect “beat-free” sustained loops on monophonic sources. Ideal for creating instrument sample libraries.
This is interesting because even though Peak Pro 5 has “loop” functionality, you’ve always had to “tune” the loop using various (very good) tools provided. However, perhaps they’ve figured out a way to “automagically” perform this function?
- Voiceover Ducking DSP: dynamically lowers music level during voice over — ideal for Podcast authoring.
This is not the ONLY feature related to podcasting (read: quick ca$h cow for many audio software folks…) in this update, but ducking DSP is very handy in general. Of course, for those of us in the biz, we typically just use a side-chain input of a compressor to perform this “ducking” task… so I would be interested to see what they have to offer in the way of DSP on this…
- Volume envelopes: easily & precisely edit volumes across entire regions, fades & cross-fades.
Before when I needed to modify a sound effect for my game development work and needed a varied volume envelope I’d always have to resort to doing this function in Logic Pro because of its great automation capabilities. Regrettably, I do NOT find Logic Pro to be the best sound editor, so this always felt like kind of a compromise. IDEALLY, I think I’d love to be able to double click on a sound sample and have it fire up Peak, save the file, and be back into Logic.
However, one can always hope this *MIGHT* be the case, due to this statement:
- By itself, or along-side your favorite DAW, Peak Pro 6 streamlines your workflow — with industry renowned sonic quality and precision.
Time will tell as more details come out about this!
